Life's little Favours - Simply Life

Couple of months ago, I received a Brunch Party invitation from Simply Life but was unable to make it as it was happening on a working day. I was disappointed because I've like local brands and will try to show them my support because I believe they started out with the pure intention of bringing the best in the products they are offering to the people.

For Simply Life, they offers a range of products from quality baby and children’s wear to homeware and other lifestyle essentials.  The company was founded by husband and wife team, Mr Gilbert Ch’ng and Ms Choong Yih Min who has over 10 years of experience each in product design, production and merchandising.

Weeks later I received a wonderful surprise from Simply Life, they sent us a a few of their products made of superior bamboo fibres.
"... which are more hypoallergenic, antibacterial and anti-fungal. Breathable and thermo regulating, the all-natural bamboo material is also highly absorbent and moisture-wicking. OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, they ensure best-in-class hygiene and softness and are easy to clean. From head to toe, your young child is lovingly supported at play and at rest."

This Mama has obsession over the son's underwear, no joke about it because at any one time DinoBoy will have like 30+ underwear in his drawer.  You may think that I'm a little be overboard on that but trust me, some days the boy will not have enough underwear to last through the week.  This is because I only do most of the washing on weekends and if it happened to be a rainy day on these days then the laundry will pile up leading to shortage of clean clothes to wear.

Anyway, it was as if Simply Life know of my secret, they sent 2 packets of underwear for DinoBoy~ Ok this Mama is more excited than the boy hahaha~  Vibrant colors aside, who can resist these cute little robots with aspiring names like Awesome, Mighty, Strong, Victor and Champion?
“We believe in a world filled with hope and happiness, possibilities and positivity, especially the world of children and their families. An encouraging word, a helping hand, or a timely pat on the back is sometimes what we need to become all that we can be and live the life we want. Through Simply Life, we want families to live more joyfully and love more radiantly.” Ms Choong Yih Min, Co-founder, Simply Life.

DinoBoy does not own boxer shorts so he was skeptical about it when he first saw it. It looked... really uncomfortable to him, "tiny and restricting" he said, "the band looks uncomfortable too."  He was surprised when he wore them and he likes them very much. (no, there will be no photos of him in the underwear because I respect his privacy.)

The thing about bamboo fabric is that they are are ultra soft, luxuriously cool to the touch and very comfortable plus they are perfect for our humid weather!  That's exactly how Simply Life's underwear felt to me when I touched them and DinoBoy experienced it when he put them on.

I have to highlight that the composition of bamboo in their baby and toddler products is far higher than those commonly available: 95% compared to the more conventional 70%, giving supreme comfort and superior hygiene.

I absolutely love Simply Life's bamboo towel!  We have a few bamboo towel of other brands but they pale in comparison with Simply Life bamboo bath towel.  I love the embroidered "Blessed" on this cool blue bamboo bath towel, I just wish that they have more choices for color, like my favourite lavender, lime green or pastel yellow.

Besides clothing and bath towel, Simply Life also have tableware and water bottles that are made with FDA-approved materials, including food-grade melamine and BPA-free plastics. Built to last, they are leak-proof, stain-resistant and odourless too.

Simply Life products are available at major departmental stores, children specialty stores and via their online eshop www.simplylife.com.sg

Foodie Fridays - Baked Honey Sesame Chicken

Having slogged in the kitchen to come out with 2 or 3 dishes on weekday dinner for past couple of months, I was all ready for a change, I am inching towards One Dish Gao Dim (or loosely translated as Settled) dishes where I can serve them with rice or noodles.  Thank God for Google and I managed to find a few to save my sanity!

I found this Baked Honey Sesame Chicken at Ther RecipeCritic couple of weeks back but didn't have the chance to make it till couple of days ago.  I made some changes to her original recipe to suit our taste, DinoPapa did his famous Golden Fried Rice and we had a satisfying dinner that day.

The recipe calls for chicken breast meat but we don't fancy that so I used chicken thigh meat instead coz the meat is more tender and soft.  This recipe is for 4 chicken breasts but I used 2 mid size chicken thigh, I didn't have time to sit down to convert the ingredients need to my quantity so I just eyeballed it.  Half way through mixing the sauces I realized that I do not have rice wine vinegar in the house, I almost flipped! I rampaged my kitchen cupboard and found a sushi rice wine.. can do lah, no choice.  It did compromise the overall taste a little bit, DinoPapa said if its a little bit sourish it will taste better.  Ah~ nevermind lah, next time I will use rice wine vinegar.

A baking dish of 9x13" was suggested in the original recipe but you know lah, I don't have baking dish so I used my corning ware.   After I poured the sauce over the chicken I was worried as it seems that I have prepared too much sauce but as it sits in the oven baking the sauce thickened, coating the chicken nicely.

Since I eyeballed the measuring for the sauce, I could remember exactly how much exactly did I use for some of ingredients, could be more or less.  Know me, you know I like recipe that are versatile right?  So, based on my recipe you make the necessary adjustment to suit you taste.

You can choose to roast your sesame seed in a toaster/oven or over the stove, I did coz I like the extra fragrance and crunchiness of the sesame seed.  I used my sauce pan, throw in the sesame seeds and roast them over small fire for a few seconds till they turned golden brown.  Sprinkle them onto the chicken just before serving, don;t they look appetizing?
