Air-fried Butter Mayonnaise Prawns

With too much cheese in the freezer since couple of weeks ago, I am still trying to clear them as fast as I could.  A few days after the Air-fried Bacon Wrapped Cheese Drumsticks, I decided to make a seafood dish, I rummaged the fridge and found that I have some tiger prawns to spare (bought them to keep for Chinese New Year steamboat), further digging around the fridge and found some more ingredients to go with the prawns.  If you love prawns you will love this dish - Air-fried Butter Mayonnaise Prawns.

As with all prawns recipes, they are fast to prepare and cook which is great for busy nights where you have limited  time and needs to put dinner on table, pronto!  You only need 7 ingredients; lesser if you wish to omit pepper and salt, thaw the prawns, mix the ingredients for the topping together, prep the prawns and pop them into the air fryer or oven.  30mins is all it takes to make this dish and have it together with pasta.

Remember to cover the prawns with aluminum foil to prevent the heat from charring the shell, then you will not have prawns as pretty as these~

I was happy to see my prawns turning out well, I closed the basket and went off to cut my veggie for cooking, suddenly the air fryer let out an "ommphh" and went silent.  I thought I accidentally switched it off while pushing in the basket, pressed the power button and this happened...

I bet you could hear me wailed "NNNNooooooo~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!!!!!!!!!" all the way from Jurong on that dreadful night! Yes, I was devastated! My beloved air fryer had thrown in the white towel and decided to retire.., right in the middle of cooking! How could YOU; my best kitchen gadget, do that to ME!!!!!

With the prawns not fully cooked I would probably be lost but lucky I still have my conventional oven which, by luck again, I was using to bake some thing earlier thus it was still quite warm.  However there wasn't time for it to heat up to 200 deg before putting the prawns in so I just pop them into the oven and set the timer for 10mins, crossing my fingers that it will turn out well.

10 mins later, I removed the prawns and as you can see it didn't turn out quite well, the butter mayonnaise topping looks droopy and sad.  I couldn't risk the prawns being over cooked by baking them any longer than that so just have to make do with them this time.

They tasted great even after the messed up cooking, prawns were not over cooked, instead they are still tender, juicy and tasty.  The tangy buttery taste from butter mayonnaise topping makes the prawns tastier, Dinoboy & DinoPapa took their share within minutes and DinoBoy asked for more but too bad there were none.  He requested me to make this dish again - SOON! like the next day because, in his words "they taste SO GOOD!".

Ingredients
* 6 Big Tiger Prawns
* 1 tablespoon butter
* 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
* 1 tablespoon minced garlic
* 1/4 teaspoon dried parsley
* half teaspoon black pepper
* pinch of salt

Steps
1. Remove the butter from fridge and let soften in room temperature.
2. Cut away the prawn's rostrum, use a sharp knife to cut the body length wise from head to tail till you can open it up.  Remove the intestine.  Set prawns aside for use later.
3. Mix butter, mayonnaise, minced garlic, salt, pepper and parsley to make butter mayonnaise topping.
4. Take a sheet of aluminum foil and fold it into a tray to fit the air fryer's basket.
5. Spoon the butter mayonnaise topping onto the prawns and place them onto the aluminum foil then into the air fryer.
6. Cover the prawns with another piece of aluminum foil to prevent the prawns from getting burnt.
7. Air fry the prawns at 160 deg for 5 mins, remove the aluminum cover and air fry it at 200 deg for another 5mins or till the prawn surface is golden brown.
8. Serve while hot.
